Just returned back to UK from 17 Day Private Tour of China arranged by 5StarChinaTours.com. The tour included 5 domestic flights, 4 train journeys - 1 soft sleeper, 1 second class and 2 first class and 9 different hotels. 6 of the hotels had 4* rating and with the exception of 4* Lantian Hotel in Zhangjiajie, all lived up to their rating. The remaining 3 hotels were not rated because of location, 1 was on top of Huangshan mountain, for example but all 3 provided clean, comfortable facilities. You cannot drink the hotel tap water and all hotels except 4* Lantian Hotel in Zhangjiajie provided 2 bottles of drinking water daily.
All hotel stays included a mainly Chinese style breakfast, although some did include Western food. Overall the quality of breakfast was good but you do need to enjoy Chinese food. The tour mainly included lunch at a local restaurant in the town/city visited - the quality of which varied greatly. Again, you need to enjoy Chinese food because it is not the same as Western Chinese and takes some getting used to. Our best meals tended to be either buffet lunch or buffet dinner, when available. The tour included 2 evening meals, the rest we provided ourselves using local restaurants in the town/city visited. Overall the quality of food was good - we did not lose any weight or suffer any stomach issues.
The main tour locations were: Beijing, Datong, Xi'an, zhangjiajie, Lijiang, Chengdu, Huangshan and Taishan. We saw many, many attractions but the ones that stood out were:
1. Beijing - Mutianyu Great Wall section, Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.
2. Datong - Yungang Grottoes and Hanging Temple on Mount Hengshan.
3. Xi'an - Terra-cotta Warriors.
4. Zhangjiajie - Tianzi Mountain including world's tallest mountain lift, Tianmen Mountain (the Avatar film location) including the world's longest cable car ride, suspension pathways & glass pathways.
5. Lijiang - Ancient Town.
6. Chengdu - Giant Pandas.
7. Huangshan - Yellow Mountain range; our best mountain experience & you certainly needed a head for heights when walking the Grand Canyon pathways. Stunning.
8. Taian - Mount Tai.
In summary, the organisation was excellent - flight & train journeys on time and very good, hotel transfers always on time, tour guides mainly spoke good English and were knowledgeable about their local region, the quality of hotels overall lived up to expectations, the quality of food varied greatly but you got used to it and we enjoyed many wonderful sights & attractions. All in all a great travel experience and successful tour.
Finally, 5StarChinaTravel.com was chosen as our preferred tour operated over the 4 other companies we invited to quote for our business for the following reasons:
1. Excellent communication from start to finish.
2. Very detailed 17 day itinerary.
3. Value for money tour package.
4. Very good Chinese Visa process included in package.
5. Nice people to deal with.
The result proved to be excellent implementation of our planned 17 day private tour itinerary.
Well done 5StarChinaTravel.Com
