I wanted my hallway painted.I supplied the paint I put the job on Check a trade. I wanted a couple of quotes first. It wasn't a big job, two days work. I had a couple of responses. One quoted double of what I was quoted elsewhere. The best one was from another painter. He came with his notebook to write the job I wanted. Just painting, walls, ceiling and doors. I walk with a crutch, and I don't know if he thought I was in cuckoo land or what! He asked me if I wanted a dust-sheet on my bare floor. I said yes. I thought it was a strange question. I asked him is that not usual to put a dust-sheet down. He said that it would be added onto the quote. I thought he meant that I buy new dust-sheets. He said no, the dust sheets were his. I asked him why the charges then. He said that it would take time to put them down, then pick them back up. I said you are talking about the big cloth ones. Yes, he said. I said, you have to be kidding! No, he wasn't. I couldn't believe it. He charges customers for laying a dust-sheet down then picking it up. I said I have a proper decorators sheet. I will put it down and pick it up myself. He said he would email me with a quote, which he didn't. Probably because I wasn't going to pay for putting a dust-sheet down. Incredible! I won't be using Check a trade again.
