I bought a couple of little things from GAK in the past and it was fine. But I recently sold a guitar and amp to them using “sell your gear” and had a terrible experience.
I negotiated a fair price for a Fender Strat, Fender amp, and gig bag (£350). I bought a cardboard box and some bubble wrap from GAK to package everything up in, and had it collected via courier as arranged by GAK.
Once my gear had been delivered to GAK, I was told that the guitar was faulty so they would be sending it back to me. Apparently, the pickups don’t work, the neck is twisted, and the tone dials don’t respond as they’re supposed to. I know for a fact that there were none of these faults with the guitar when I sent it off, because I played it one last time before packaging it up.
I got in touch with a second-hand buyer at GAK to tell them that the guitar was absolutely not faulty when I sent it off, but they insisted that it hadn’t been damaged either in transit or after it had been received by them. They have promised to refund me the money I spent on the cardboard box and bubble wrap which I’m grateful for, but I’m absolutely gutted that my guitar is now broken and I have nothing to show for it.
I’m not sure if this kind of thing happens a lot or if it’s an isolated incident, but I will certainly not be selling anything to GAK in the future.
