Buyer beware. Alamo uses shady business practices that has cost me hundreds of dollars in additional expenses. I arrived at Chicago Midway at 1:00 AM, virtually checked in for my rental car and headed to the remote rental car garage. Upon arrival I found the garage to be empty. A supervisor approached and said they were out of cars. The choices were to Uber to Ohare airport where there MAY be a rental car or Uber to a hotel and hope for a car in the morning. Ohare is an hour away and an additional hour out of my way. The supervisor said that no matter what we did the additional expenses would be covered. SHOCKER! Alamo does not want to cover any expenses. The "Escalation Supervisor" stated that a reservation does not guarantee a car. He stated that a reservation is to settle on pricing; to decide what size vehicle; and to set a time, date, and location. When I explained that the very definition of a reservation is to set something aside for one person and not give to another, he stated that is not how Alamo defines a reservation. What I am left with: $150 in Uber fees, $160 hotel cost, and additional $220 in fees incurred due to a last minute rental with another company, and an empty promise from a Alamo supervisor. What I have received: A comment from and agent that Alamo will cover nothing and that I have choices in rental car companies.
