Complaint number: 8527784 The extended warranty is by far the worse scam I have ever fallen victim to. 6 months ago the gearbox on my Kia seized at 70k miles after a year of owning the car. Brutally it happened at the first anniversary of the death of my son. I had it towed to a garage and they quoted £3k to replace the gearbox and clutch that had also been chewed through by the seized gearbox. After 6 weeks of calling daily and never being able to get through in less than an hour they finally sent a third party engineer to confirm the garages findings. A further 3 weeks goes by and we finally get the report. The engineer had done an “external inspection of the gearbox” and had decided that the “likely cause of failure” was that the bearings had worn and caused the gears to misalign and that caused the gearbox to seize. Big assist/Warranties 2000 (they're the same company) then runs with this, claims it's wear and tear, and that “they don't cover wear and tear” and rejects the claim two months after first logging the claim. All the way through logging the claim, they were the least responsive and most maliciously incompetent people I have genuinely had to endure. It's not that they're idiots or stupid. They are so purposefully and meticulously unhelpful. No matter who you talk to (if you can get through) they simply cannot tell you anything. If you want to speak to a manager, you have to request a call back. The manager will never call you back. Ever. If you send an email, it won't be replied to for 3 weeks. So after all this, I raise a dispute through their appeals process. After 2 more months they claim “the engineers report is legally binding” and that I can hire my own engineer to dispute his conclusion. Conclusion of what?? He looked at the external parts of the gearbox? Does he have X-Ray vision? His conclusion was he thinks that maybe something has worn but he would need to open the gearbox to determine that. The real pain is, it's irrelevant. The terms and conditions of the warranty state that they won't cover wear and tear on parts that require regular servicing such as tyres and brakes, or parts that are a required maintenance item in line with your manufacturers required maintenance schedule. There is no part of the internals of a gearbox that meets either of those criteria. They willfully ignore and breach their own terms and conditions of their contract in order to refuse paying out and providing the warranty that you have purchased. It's been 6 months. My car had to be towed home because the garage simply couldn't hold it on their premises any longer. I spent hundreds of pounds on hire cars. I still don't have my working vehicle. When I bought the car and warranty from Big Motoring world the salesman specifically said to me “what of the gearbox seized, you want the warranty to help cover you”. The warranty is a scam. If you don't believe me, call them now. Call Big Assist or Warranties 2000 and see how long you are on hold for. Big Motoring world are selling a scam product. If the value of your warranty claim is too high they will not pay out and will work tooth and nail to ensure that you simply never get paid out. I am currently in the process of trying to desperately get a refund through my finance company and failing that I'll have to try to take them to court. I've had to contact Citizens Advice from support through this, I'm in contact with the motoring ombudsman. It's a genuine nightmare. I can't even begin to tell you what pain it caused to try to muster the strength to fight this company at the same time as trying desperately to cope with the death of my son. Trying to muster up the energy to beg the call operator to please just give me an update, help me to understand where in the process we were. What was going on. There's not enough recourse to show a company like this how appalling they are. I just hope that I can convince you to save the £3,500 we spent on our extended warranty and never buy a car from Big Motoring World and never ever get a warranty from Big Assist or Warranties 2000.
