I  used to go for the cheapest, it did not work out well: Utility Warehouse billed incorrectly after ignoring readings, I had to pay a £600 bill on the spot. They had zero customer support and never input readings, new supplier had to back-bill hundreds.  Tried Economy Energy who over-billed customers by hundreds, banned from taking on new customers and have now become insolvent. Same with OurPower who have also folded, Toto and Solarplicity, Eversmart, Uttily,Brilliant energy. Gnergy about to go bust, Robin Hood have just had to borrow nearly 10 million £ to stay afloat. Breeze energy, and Delta Gas and Power also rocky. These companies also attract huge fines for not sourcing enough energy from renewable sources which is bad for the planet and back for your pocket. Companies with tight margins over-bill customers to claw back extra cash to try to keep afloat, so there aren't really savings despite them advertising 'cheaper' unit rates.
