On entering the Glasgow store, we weren't greeted with a hello. We were asked later if we needed help though. On first appearance the store is very tatty and sparse looking in stock and decoration. It wasn't clear exactly where things were so I think more signage is needed for customers who have never been before. On asking some advice on lens specs in stock to buy, the gentleman was helpful but I couldn't help feel like I was a beginner and I didn't know what I was talking about. I felt that when I asked about Canon L lenses I was almost looked upon like "do you realise the cost of these and that they are professional lenses sir?!". At one point, the member of staff dealing with a 'pro photographer'. I say pro, he had a big case with lots of things in it. I can only say he seemed to get more attention and respect. He interjected in our conversation a few times with some advice but again I felt as If I was a lesser photographer in the room. I own a business that specialises in design, photography and videography throughout the UK and have a series of full frame Canon cameras and L lenses for this reason and to be honest I am not sure why I would want to visit the Calumet store again unless it was something I needed quickly. Overall I feel the store and staff in general are very off putting and it needs a breath of fresh air to welcome and keep new custom. To note, I visited the Calumet store when it was in the centre of Glasgow and felt the same then. I took the decision to give the shop a second chance and can only say my thoughts have been confirmed again.
