I was in the market for a car recently, and I had pretty much made up my mind that I was going to buy a Subaru. Most of the Subaru's I came across that I liked were just beyond my budget. Finally I found a Forester that was in my price range, which then raised the question of why is this one so cheap? I went to check it out in person, and brought the VIN home so I could pull up the CARFAX. CARFAX gave me a lot of the vehicle's history. I was able to tell where it was from, where it had lived most of its life, what sort of care the owner(s) had given to it, all the major mechanical work it had undergone, and even an explanation for the price(Salvage Title). Between seeing the car in person and the records contained within the CARFAX, I decided that it was still a good car. The price of the Forester was still more than I'd really considered paying for a salvage vehicle. CARFAX provided a buyers guide that gave me a better idea of what i should pay for this particular vehicle. Finally I returned to the dealer, enlightened by CARFAX, I was able to talk the dealer down $1200 from the sticker price. For a total of $1875 I finally had the Subaru I had desired for so long, and I never had to worry about any hidden surprises down the road, or overpaying. 6 weeks later I drive my car everyday and still haven't had any issues.
