CARFAX let me know that the Civic Si I had my eyes on had a salvage title in another state but was "title washed" and appeared as a clean title in my state. Turns out the car also had an incorrect odometer reading.
I'd say that the price of CARFAX was worth it considering the headaches it saved me from buying a car from an untrustworthy seller.
Also, it's been fun looking up my old cars and seeing what states they ended up in.
