I was looking into buying a nice condition Toyota 4Runner. The seller delayed giving me the VIN. I went to meet the seller and then drove the vehicle. He advertised it as having 124,000 miles and three family members as owners. He seemed friendly enough. I liked how it drove and preliminary inspection seemed fine. I checked CarFax and it actually had 280,000 miles, five owners, and he had bought it from an auction. Needless to say I immediately walked away from him and that transaction. He was fraudulent. Now I will make it requirement to check CarFax before meeting someone. This could have been a dangerous situation as this seller also had several friends of his waiting when we returned from the test drive
