CARFAX really helped me in purchasing a new car. That's right! I used it to check the history of a new car....not a used one. The reason....the dealer had to get the car I wanted from another dealer. When it arrived, it had slightly over 1,000 miles on it! A car that was being sold as new actually had 1,000 miles! By checking the CARFAX report, I could see that the car was inspected and made ready for sale 11 months earlier. It was used by the dealer as either a demo or for one of the employees to drive. By having this information in hand, I was able to negotiate a better price, and get a break on an extended warranty since the normal 3 years, 36,000 mile new car warranty had already been partially used due to the 1,000 miles and putting it into service 11 months prior to selling it to me. Thank you CARFAX!!! I know this is an unusual circumstance, but it gave me the information I needed and assured me it had not been titled to anyone else, and it helped me get a better price because I went to the dealer armed with the history of this car.
