I was looking to buy a low end (but suitable) first car for my 19 year old daughter. The first thing I did was buy a 5-pak of Carfax inquiries so I knew I could check the Carfax on anything that seemed promising. I think I ended up using 4 of the carfaxes before we bought. In each instance, I learned something about the car that the private party sellers didn't know, or forgot to tell me. For instance I asked: "how many prior owners?" Seller said " I don't know" Carfax said "Nine". We kept looking. I asked "are you the original owner?" Seller said "yes". Carfax said that the current owner bought the vehicle out of a lease fleet when it had 11,000. Seller then fessed up it was true. Too much money at stake not to spend $59 on a 5-pak of Carfaxes. thank you.
