I have used Carfax to purchase my last two used cars. As with most cars over five years old, they are sold at auction, when traded in, if they are not fast movers, or unique enough to earn a coveted spot on the car lot. I was looking for a premium van. I liked the Ford Freestar. My daughter bought a new limited edition for thirty-eight thousand. Five years later I found mine in a used car lot for $6000. It was not the limited edition, but an SEL, with high miles. It was clean, quiet, and seemed well maintained, but to be sure, I paid for a Carfax report. That report showed me that the original owner had it three years, the second owner, two years, who bought it from the original, and subsequently traded it in. It was serviced by Ford, had no incident reports, and I bought it. Other than normal maintenance, which I always log, and two recalls corrected by Ford, the van ran beautifully, was dependable, and when I sold it to another private owner, I gave him the log book and the carfax report, which eas the deciding factor in him buying my van, instead of one of three other vans he had looked at. When I was looking for a Miata to replace my motorcycle, I had a certain price in mind, and a condition that I deemed acceptable. I found one, and was seriously considering it enough to pay for a Carfax report. It did not disappoint, and I purchased the vehicle. I have had it three months now and I am very pleased with it. Carfax does the one thing that a mechanic or eager salesman can't do. Carfax gives you peace of mind.
