I trust my judgement of private sellers of cars over dealing with used car sales people, who make their living selling cars. I am currently in the market to find a good safe car for my son, who has finished his driver training/education. CARFAX has saved me a ton of hours by giving me a heads up on cars that have been in accidents that would otherwise be masked by repairs and unscrupulous sellers. My project to find a car for my son has taken a lot longer than I thought it would simply because I am not willing to buy if I have an inkling that either the car isn't what the seller says it is or is unaware of needed maintenance (I put a beach towel down and crawl underneath to check for leaks and suspension problems). I have myself willing to walk away from any car, no matter how good it looks and how great a deal it might be. CARFAX has helped me hone my senses, sometimes even before I request a report I can tell by looking at the craigslist photos that the car has been repaired (equal spacing for the the fenders to the hood and trunk, doors uneven alignment and paint too shiny to be original-especially red and black). But, being particular has had a price. I have walked away from a couple I should have negotiated to buy-good cars on craigslist do not last. But, I am confident that with the help of CARFAX I will find a good car for my son.
