I recently received my SHM mini box set of The Rolling Stones "Tattoo You" I have several other versions including a previous SHM version from 2011. I selected the 2 disc version but I was most interested in how this release would compare with others of one of my favorite albums. This set is actually a remix taken from the master tapes. No need to worry as the remastering/remix of the tapes has been conducted with great authenticity and we now have the best version available in my opinion. My previous Japan CD Blue Spec was my benchmark but has now been surpassed by this release. The open soundstage and the smooth handling of the upper frequencies is amazing with not a hint of harshness. Some versions of this recording can be bass light but in this case CD Japan have provided just the right balance of depth and impact. SHM materials are the key here in that they do have a very beneficial affect on the overall sound and smoothness of the discs. The packaging as usual in mini-album form is flawless. I also find that CD Japan provide their quality products at most reasonable pricing and at very good value for money. My collection of SHM's is now 400+ and rising.
