You "can" make a digital image look very close if not indistinguishable from a film photo. It's just a matter of time and energy. Which is great because there's a lot of film emulations out there and many can get you where you're going. I know because I've tried them.
However, a lot of these emulations fall short in key areas which will require more time, and more energy.
That's why I boast about Cobalt's emulations. I've found from experience that Cobalt's emulations get you there the quickest and most accurate. Is it going to be exactly like film? Right off the bat, no, but you must be realistic. There is no "one size fits all" solution. It will always require tweaking, but damn do these emulations get you super close super quick.
The name of the game is the least resistance. That's why I use these emulations.
Also on a side note ... I was skeptical about having to get camera profiles for each exact camera, but I'm actually very thankful now that is how they do it. It really does make a big difference.
