This is my review of a recently replaced glass roof and glass side panel by Comfortable Conservatories MK for our conservatory in Bedford My profile - Age 65 Retired - was a self employed business owner running a local Estate Agents Hobbies – Relevant one - keen at DIY providing a substantial knowledge of buildings Our original roof details - The conservatory was installed by a reputable local company in 2007 The specification included the latest and very expensive self cleaning and heat reflecting glass which we were advised would keep the heat out and the warmth in - in our opinion a total failure, we had to install roof binds at a considerable extra cost which became a home to dust, dead flies,wasps and spiders and we were forever using heating to keep the temperature at the right level Our research - We had several quotes involving removing the whole roof and replacing with an aluminium structure and a ring beam and these were at least twice the price of Comfortable Conservatories and we think were going to cause a lot more disturbance for no more benefit Action taken - We visited Comfortable Conservatories in MK and met with a sales person and saw samples of the roof on conservatories and were provided with examples of tiles together with viewing a very informative video film which accurately described the roof replacement procedure from start to finish. This video is available online at Comfortable Conservatories website and is well worth viewing. We were also able to see samples of the tiles available The decision was made there and then and we paid a deposit and ordered the work to be started at a date and time suitable to us The replacement - On the prescribe day the crew arrived and organised themselves with army like precision, with ground sheets laid out tools and materials which were carefully bought onto site. Work then commenced and within a few days of hard graft the new lightweight tiled roof with full insulation and plasterboard internal finish was installed and a glazed side panel was replaced with exterior UPVC panels, insulation and plasterboard internal finish. The whole project completed with new exterior gutters giving a clean and fresh appearance A couple of days later professional plasters arrived and completed the finish for the roof and wall leaving it for me to now take over and fit skirting and paint the plastered surfaces after drying out I requseted a building regulations certificate and shortly after the job was finished a Bedford Building Inspector arrived and his comment was - that looks a good roof I know this company well and a completion certificate arrived by email very soon after our meeting Snags - Nothing of concern, by choice we had some addition lead flashing carried out and that was done very well at at a fair price and the electric supply to the ceiling fan was checked and then it was all done our new conservatory roof and side panel was ready for use Conclusion - As with any large investment there are always doubts, but with the way my queries were resolved, coupled with the examples shown I felt happy to proceed and have not regretted it in any way whatsoever. The company has proved to be extremely efficient and dealt with all queries as a matter of urgency We love our “garden lounge” as we now refer to it and use it both during the day and at night to watch TV and now the original lounge to the house is virtually redundant. The roof has withstood very heavy downpours of rain with no noise, the temperature on a hot summers day is very acceptable without using the ceiling fan and the nights are no longer cold needing additional heating. In winter we expect to top up the temperature but judging buy the performance of the roof I am sure it will cost a lot less than before This has taken me some time to prepare and it is a genuine review from a very satisfied customer Thank you all at Comfortable Conservatories MK Steve Porter
