We have used Cottages.com numerous times over the years and have stayed in some lovely cottages. Our last experience however was a different story. The cottage was disgustingly dirty, very dilapidated, and dangerous. We contacted Cottages.com with a very long list of faults, together with photographic evidence, and received a very cursory reply saying 'sorry you felt the need to complain'. The owner seemed to acknowledge that at present it was not a pleasant place to stay. That was it, no real apology, no compensation for an awful, upsetting, week. We had a truly awful week there and only stayed as with three dogs we couldn't find alternative accommodation and we were visiting sick relatives nearby. Also, the property had no working smoke alarm and no carbon monoxide alarm which as a rented property made it illegal. We notified Cottages.com of this almost two weeks ago yet they are still marketing the property.
