We purchased a mattress Clearance 5' TradLux Cotton Rich (Bi-fold) Futon Mattress in Cottonsafe® Cream for £429.00. After sleeping on the mattress for less than three weeks, my wife and I have started getting extreme allergic reactions. We got various types of allergies, severe itching, rash all over our bodies, skin flaking and peeling, insomnia, anxiety, tension, a phobia of sleeping, depression and sweating are some of the symptoms that my wife experienced whilst sleeping on this mattress. In my case, the symptoms are much milder in comparison to my wife's who got a severe form of psoriasis and eczema/skin rash.
As soon as we stopped sleeping on the “Cottonsafe” mattress, the effects of many of these symptoms started gradually disappearing on their own.
We would like to point out that there is no other apparent cause for these health issues especially because we are both consuming only organic food and personal hygiene products, and live very healthy lifestyles, which also led us to buy this mattress.
We would like to mention that we had worn some of the clothing with low percentage of wool and/or synthetic fibres in it (usually less than 15%) in the past, but that we have never experienced any allergies which were caused by them.
We explained that we have been struggling with health problems caused by this “Cottonsafe” mattress, and invested significant funds not only in remedies, medicines and supplements, but also in bedsheets, covers, blankets and bed lining to reduce the effects of irritation on our skin until we bought another mattress.
We also thought that a horrendous smell of wool (or chemicals from within the mattress) will evaporate over time; to our great shock, not only did it not vanish, but it has slowly transformed into a stench similar to the one coming from a “general waste” garbage bin. Another issue are the white threads/fibres coming out of the mattress which have been getting stuck in our bed sheets and cannot be removed or cleaned. We had to throw away a few new bed sheets already in the end as they could not be washed.
Cottonsafe’s customer support replied that “the refund is not possible due to hygiene regulation once a futon has been slept on it cannot be returned”. They did not offer any further kind of assistance and refused to take any actions, which is a real disgrace.
Be forewarned before you decide to make any purchase from this company.
