My wife (who is registered blind) having cancelled her broadband SIM card on October 4 by phone was told the cancellation period was 30 days. In view of that information she let both the direct debit payments for October and November go through after that time and then asked me to cancel it from December based on that information. She then started to receive ‘no reply’ emails saying she owed Eir money. She tried unsuccessfully to contact Eir as we live in the UK and could not get through and also was unable to address the issue online as she did not have the reference number. She never had an online account. This week we returned to Ireland for the first in months due to her ongoing cancer treatment in the UK. We decided to go to the Eir shop in Navan to resolve the issue. The attitude of the member of staff who was not remotely interested in helping her solve the problem was frankly unacceptable. He then put her on the phone to customer services who were equally unhelpful. The result of this call was an extra months payment plus a fine for not paying on time. I believe the way my wife was treated was unacceptable from this company. It was a ‘tough, your problem’ attitude. I paid the money rather than me wife having to deal with the stress of this experience. I hope Eir are happy now!!!
