I am going to be honest, I have a few choice words about the "Texas Power to Choose", but I won't write them down here, but it is not positive. It was never good for consumers, but it's what we are stuck with. Went to the Texas Power to Choose site, like I have done every year. For context I live in an apartment in the DFW Mid-Cities area. When I went to selecting "Home" selecting "Apartment", the 3 plans that had $50 discount for using over 500kw, of course none were available in my area. So only thing stuck with is getting $100 discount if I use over 1000kw. Last year that only happened 4 times. So if I don't use 1000kw, I would pay just over 23 cents a kw, that's nuts! What it promotes is not to be efficient with you electricity usage.
.
After looking for a couple of weeks with my current plan expiring I tried Energy Bot. There was a 12 month plan with a alright rate, and no big charges if you don't use over 1000kw. The rate was around 14.5 per kw. So not bad, and I can use as little electricity as I need to and not be penalized. Their site was good, simple, easy to use and it gave me providers that Texas Power to Choose didn't. So kudos to Energy Bot.
.
I will always dislike, no disdain is a better word for the whole Texas Power to Choose that was drummed up by TXU and Reliant. So in the end I got an decent plan for the next year, and I will look at Energy Bot in year and go from there.
