The next time one of your domestic appliances breaks down, will you (a) replace it and buy a new one (b) call out an engineer and pay them to repair it or (c) fix it yourself? Lockdown has given me the time to research online what the issue was and source the parts to fix the problem myself with the service provided by espares. In this case, my washing machine stopped spinning! The likely cause detailed online was the (carbon) brushes had worn out and not making the proper contact to turn the drum. After unplugging the machine and turning it up so I could see underneath I could see what type of carbon brushes I would need to source, which were detailed clearly on the espares website for the make and model of the machine. I ordered a set of two, so that I could replace both at the same time and paid for next day delivery. Watching a YouTube video gave me the confidence to do this repair myself - each brush is held in place by two screws and was a simple job for any novice / home handyman to complete. Within half an hour, the washing machine was up and running perfectly as previously. How much did it cost me? Under £23.00 for the parts and next day delivery! I wonder how much it would have cost me for options (a) and (b)?
