Living in rural France our France telecom line provided pretty poor service - we managed to get an ADSL service as part of a lease purchase of a macbook - this was ok most of the time for the first couple of years. I had the line tested and was told it was fine - after slow and interupted service. We had a particularly poor period when we could lose the internet connection from about 2000 - 0800hrs the following day! I complained again - only to be informed from FT that the system was fine - only minutes before the service dropped out again! I had been looking over the technician's shoulder as he took the signal readings - we were paying for "up to 2meg" and were getting 0.64meg - just about the old dial-up signal. I had always gone with FT - on the basis that they supplied everything - so there was no other agency to blame. I was talking to SFR, at the time - constant cold calling - promised me 8meg on the same system. When I told FT about my intention to change they pulled the service - I was left with no phone, lost my trading phone number, no internet! I eventually got sorted with SFR big mistake - perfect for first 12hrs, then 10mins internet over next 24hrs - suddenly no phone contact - took me months to cancel the deal.
Thought all my birthdays had come at once when I contacted John Sidwell at Big Dish Satellite. Collected the kit from him at 1400hrs - two hour drive home, started to unpack it - fed dogs, got tools sorted - and I was on-line by 2000hrs.
Took a while to sort out the best package for me - kept exceeding my allowance - bit expensive to keep buying time. However we are now sorted and able to phone, skype, stream videos, upload websites etc and run at a speed comparable to many urban dwellers.
My original mounting of the dish was not the best, but have moved it and now have a pretty uninterrupted signal - lots of trees around our house.
On balance - we have a good reliable system with excellent support - no more ringing FT to get a recorded message and another number to ring fired off in "machine gun French". FT don't seem to have the resources, SFR are a complete waste of time - I returned their Nuef Box via their courrier - they lost track of it - I got a Bailif's letter demanding 79€. My only appeal was to ring them on a premium line number! Using my TooWay (at the time) internet I discovered that these people were based in Sweden - so I phoned their head office in Stockholm on my VOIP phone and explained the situation - I was given the direct line to an English speaking person in their French head office. I explained the situation and said that not only had I returned the item but I had a receipt - however after the problems with SFR I felt indisposed to assist them in keeping track of their property.
Happily - all in the past. The support from Europasat has been excellent, prompt and efficient. We pay the same as we were paying with France Telecom for our current service - there is absolutely no comparison - I wish I had found Europasat years ago and never miss a chance to recommend them to anyone I meet.
