An excellent service with friendly staff and it seems like they make it a minute or two faster with every timetable change. So why not 'very good'?
1. The toilets are a bit smelly and there are often 1 or 2 out of service on any given train.
2. I am really fed up of hearing "... but next time you must bring your railcard", which I seem to hear on every single trip. It seems like they let people get the railcard discount without making passengers actually buy a railcard. Very annoying when you have paid full price!
3. The food and drink offer is poor. The sandwiches are boring, the food is generally not very healthy and there is poor choice for vegetarians. Despite Yorkshire being full of great breweries, Hull Trains only sell the usual horrible national brands (how about something from Atom or Wold Top?) On the plus side, prices in the buffet are a little cheaper than most intercity operators and the coffee is now quite good.
