My daughter only started her tutoring sessions from Alex this week, but in that one hour she has gone from “I’m not going to anymore biology lessons as I don’t understand anything and I’m going to fail” to “We have been studying this topic for the last 6 months and I haven’t understood any of it, but in just one hour, he’s made it seem so easy and I can’t believe how complicated school made it. I really enjoyed that and I think I might be able to do really well now!” It has only been one session, which I assumed would be more of a getting to know each other type chat, along with finding out what exam board she is doing, what components she was struggling with and coming up with a plan etc. However, he asked all of those questions beforehand and came fully prepared with easy diagrams, other print outs, previous exam questions on that topic, the points that examiners are looking for in answering those questions (which he knows as he is also an exam marker). He broke things up into such small simple segments that my daughter is completely baffled as to why she couldn’t understand it before! He also asked her for her answers on some of the things he had gone through with her, and again, went on to show her how to reword answers or things to exclude or include which would be things that examiners would be looking for. He left her with lots of print outs of the topic, plus questions, plus the markers that the examiners need, all in very simplistic terms. I am amazed at how proactive he was, how approachable and amenable he is, and how adept he is at turning complicated subjects into much more simple, understandable, rememberable chunks. From the initial session, I cannot praise him highly enough and I think it will be worth every single penny!
