- My late husband took out his original mortgage decreasing life insurance with Legal and General, through Nationwide, on 21st May 2010. Policy No 013580654-5. This was when we bought our house. - In September 2015 we decided to add me to the policy, so consulted with the Nationwide Building Society who ‘advised’ that the only way of adding me, was to cancel the original policy and start a new policy. We agree to take out the new policy on 3rd October 2015. - It then took Legal and General 6 1/2 months to actually start our new policy. The start date for this was 23rd April 2016. The policies were set to run consectutively so as the new one started the old one ended. There was never any break in premiums. - My late husband commited suicide on 28th March 2017. - Myself and my financial adviser spoke with Nationwide on the 4th April 2017 to explain my situaton and agreed to open a claim based on the positive reassurance from Legal and General and Nationwide. - After much chasing and no further information I finally heard from someone at Legal and General who informed me that under no uncertain terms would they pay out for a suicide in the first year. - Ive sent several letter to Nationwide and Legal and General but both parties deny any culpability and simply passing the blame. We are now 7 months down the line and no closer to getting anything sorted.
