They sell "upgrade" keys but do not make it readily apparent that the key is infact for an upgrade only. I can only assume this is done with intent given the key was to upgrade a game which you can't even buy the base version of anymore. Realizing my mistake after trying to use the key and it being rejected (and their shady practice of not making it apparent it's an upgrade), i requested a refund and they provided the refund policy which basically notes they CAN refund it, but choose not to.
Seriously, they could make a button you have to acknowledge that something is an upgrade or anything like that, but I can only assume they choose not to as they would sell less of these old and useless keys that way.
They cite the fact that they can't resell the CD key once I've seen it, which is a valid argument except for the fact that they're not going to sell them all at this point anyway (old game you can't even buy the base version of now) and they could relist the key and assist the subsequent customer assuming I did actually use it (I very obviously didn't which is safe to assume given my extensive purchase history with them).
All in all, i'm out a couple bucks as the cost of this lesson and will take my business elsewhere in the future.
