I took my car for a free suspension check because I heard some noises when I was driving over bad roads. I'm an enthusiastic home mechanic wannabe, I have some limited tools and knowledge so I checked the suspension myself beforehand and couldn't find any problems, so I decided to have a professional take a look at it just to be sure. So I took the car to them, the check happened, and I get a call from them about the results. I know I've got bad tyres although they are still legal so they aren't priority. They said my rear engine mount is bad which could case noises and vibration, and I noticed it myself that the gearstick moves when accelarating. However here comes the scam part. On the phone the guy asked whether I hear noises when breaking. I said yes, some squeal when braking lightly. So he said my brake caliper brackets were bad, and I was quoted 220£ each to replace them on both sides. Now my car had new pads and rotors fitted a year ago. They just needed some copper grease to make them quiet which I have done today myself. No issues whatsoever with my brake caliper brackets, or any part with my front brakes. Now I didn't get scammed because I know some stuff. But someone who has no clue about cars would've gotten ripped off by almost 500£. I'm shocked to experience this, don't know if it's because I'm young, a foreigner, or this just happens to everybody regardless of age or nationality.
