I want to change my name following my marriage and hsbc has been the most difficult place to do it so far: First direct I was just able to fill a form and send a copy of marriage certificate; HMRC I could fill online form; and even Natwest, which was annoying because I ha to go on branch, but at least I could do it over the counter. With HSBC you can't change your name over the counter, you have to speak to one of their customer service staff but they are always busy so I am going to have to book and appointment, on a Saturday, just to change my name. It is beyond infuriating. Furthermore the staff of the two branches I visited were very unhelpful, the worst being streatham hill where they just left me and a few other people waiting without anyone even acknowledging us. I just had to walk out. Glad I do my everyday banking with first direct who are just brilliant. Can't believe they are the same group!
