At first I did not receive a link to pay but they probably realised that and tries calling me then left me a voicemail when unsuccessful. I was not in a hurry and the visa was supposed to take more than a week anyway so I did not see the problem in that. They did ask however if I wanted to pay with a card even though I opted for PayPal on my application form but again, it was fine.
It's also the cheapest visa for China that I found so far, last year I payed 28 pounds more!
