Ikea, I have been a loyal customer of yours for years, and across 4 states. Even in times when I had to travel hours to get to a store. Love their concept, love their products. Love, Love, Love. I was so incredibly thrilled when you decided to build a store less than an hour from my home. Well, Ikea, you have betrayed that loyalty and I now know that for all the greatness of your physical store and products, your customer service SUCKS.
Last weekend we went to our local store, which is at least 45 minutes away. Not exactly local, but certainly close enough for a well-planned weekend shopping trip.
We picked out the bunk bed set that we had been wanting for our 7 year old son and were so excited to finally purchase it, set up delivery, and also splurge for the assembly (my husband has a terrible back and this set is quite heavy). We worried about what to do with my son's old bunkbed (also an Ikea product that he has just outgrown). The very nice young man in the pickup and delivery center told us not to worry, if we could not get someone to take the bed just CALL IKEA and for $25 we could add on the takeaway service. In fact he advised us NOT to add it then because it would be nearly impossible to take off later if we did not need the service. So this afternoon I tried to call you, Ikea (and by the way the 1-888-888-4532 number is BOGUS. "all circuits busy" all day long? what's that all about?). I found another number that has a different prefix than the "888" and got to speak with a very nice Ikea person on the phone who informed me that there is absolutely NO WAY to (1) change an order over the phone, (2) pay for anything over the phone, or (3) call into any physical Ikea store. The ONLY way to change anything or add anything is to physically go back to the actual Ikea store. I am very sorry, Ikea, but this is the biggest bunch of ridiculousness EVER. There is literally NOTHING I can do now except figure out how to get this other bed out of my house on my own OR drive 45 minutes to the store and pay to have it taken away (which is unfortunately not an option this particular week, before the scheduled delivery). This simply should not be an issue. Ikea, you win the award for the WORST and most IMPRACTICAL customer service EVER. It is ironic considering how your entire company and concept is built on principals of efficiency, convenience, and practicality, not to mention ethics. Are you KIDDING me? I cannot wait to see what happens on Sunday when we are supposed to get our delivery and have it built. I am very worried that this will also NOT be what it was sold as.
I cannot even express how utterly disappointed I am in you, Ikea. Thanks.
