I used the DIY pack, and it helped me tremendously with my spouse visa application. There's a lot of mixed messages online as to what you do or don't need to include in your documents, but following the checklist exactly I got approved in under the estimated time and with no follow up calls or emails from the Home Office for more documents. When I emailed with additional questions, Jason was prompt to respond and lovely to speak to. It's of course not cheap, and it's entirely possible to do the visa application yourself, but there were a lot of documents mentioned in the DIY pack that were not on the home office list, and I've seen other people online be asked for some of them, delaying their application while they collected them.
