Discriminating against the most vulnerable I have a life-threatening condition and rely on regular follow- ups at Moorfield’s. My condition can deteriorate quickly and Moorfield’s has always told me to come back urgently if that happens, because it could be fatal. But since Moorfield’s found out I am exempt from covering my face by way of disability, they have treated me like dirt. First, they refused to let me attend my critical appointment unless I showed a doctor’s exemption letter. There was no warning of this, they only tell you when you get there. They bullied me into paying almost two hundred pounds for a private GP letter – because my NHS GP said they are not doing these letters because Moorfield’s should not be asking for them. And now they have the nerve to say mask-exempt people(i.e. the most vulnerable people) will have phone consults instead. So after being threatened with denial of care because of my disability and pressured into getting an expensive mask exemption letter – something not required by law or government rules, Moorfield’s now says it will offer people with disabilities a reduced level of service. They also will not refund me for my expenses. This means they won’t do physical examinations so won’t be monitoring deterioration of my health. I may lose my vision as a result. How is this lawful or ethical? I have read other reviews saying this discrimination is a breach of the Equality Act, but I am too sick to take it further. Shame on you Moorfields!
