For the past 2-3 months I’ve been continuously harassed by Opus Energy’s debt collection agency LCS for late payment on the account.
I inherited the account from a tenant who set up the account as a business account, and after tenant vacated I waited for correspondence from Opus in order to transfer the meter back to my name.
After a month and a half went by and I didn’t receive any bill or letter from Opus, I decided to get in touch with them to inquire about taking over, paying balance, etc. It was then when I found out that we owed £500 for 2 months of electricity.
I explained to the Opus rep that the premises have been vacant for 2 months and usage should be minimal and why I’m being charged so much. He explained that because I don’t have a contract with Opus that a standard tariff would apply.
Even after explaining my situation they did not care and were unhelpful. Out of rage I hung up on the rep, but shortly after someone called from Opus asked to verify my information then hung up on me. This level of pettiness gives some insight into the culture and ethics at Opus.
I’ve emailed their Complaints department twice and no one has emailed or called me.
I called again today to see if anyone willing to help and after over an hour on the phone they said the best they could do is put me on a payment plan.
I’m currently looking at how to take this up with civil courts. If anyone has any suggestions please share.
Thank you so much.
