Bought an HP laptop from Brighton, Western Rd shop, and paid them handsomely for a plug’n’play set-up, explaining that I needed an emergency replacement for my Acer, which had just eaten its hard drive.
They promised to supply within 90 minutes, all set up, and phone me when it was ready. Five hours later, I had to go back to the shop (they don't answer their phone) and stand there while they finished the job.
Got laptop home, only to find that their tech had put his personal password on the computer systems, so I couldn't even get into it.
Took it back to the shop. Tech took his passwords off, and gave no word of apology.
Got home again, and found that I couldn't get my email to send. As a journalist, this meant I couldn't work.
Took it back again the following day. This time, Jiri, their tech ‘expert’ couldn’t get the email to send after repeated attempts. Then he lost his temper and very rudely blamed me for using an ‘obscure’ email provider.
I asked to whom I could complain about my experience. He said 'no one', then had the gall to suggest that I come back when I had a 'better attitude'.
I have no tech skills at all. But I decided to try and have a fiddle myself. Went into advanced email settings and unclicked the 'require SSL receipt' box, as a blind guess. It worked. Took me all of two minutes.
I've had bad experiences with this chain before. I feel like a mug for ever going back again.
