It’s hard to know even where to start when describing what Rob has done with Perfect Hair Health: what it represents. To those reading this, I don’t know if you have a finger on the pulse of Western medicine or the modern healthcare paradigm, but allow me to give you a quick glimpse. It’s brutal out there. Slaves to massive, conglomerated mega-entities and their hyperaggressive patient quotas, a modern doctor no more controls their own output or the quality of their care than a reporter reading from a teleprompter: the vocation has become a farcical comedy of errors and misinformation, even for the goodhearted ones—the ones who mean well and genuinely care for the patients that pass through their busy fingers. The primary metric for the overwhelming majority of medical practitioners (people holding a shingle out as being sage counselors on matters of health and physiology) is simply how many patients they see in a day: everything else is totally auxiliary and subordinated simply to volume and numbers. The model simply isn’t profitable without this metric at its beating heart: and so the cycle turns over every day with no time for these poor people to reflect on whether what they are doing is fundamentally broken. And that’s the good practitioners: make no mistake that there are many out there much less imbued with those virtues. Green-driven snake oil peddlers who have found themselves extremely well-suited to the mercenary and transactional model of modern healthcare and are making hay while they are mighty. In my very first consultation with a doctor about my hair loss, I was told in an enthusiastic and upbeat one with absolute conviction that finasteride almost never had any side effects: that, in fact, the overwhelming majority of people who take it end up with a net positive to their health since it reduces the size of the prostate and thus the risk of prostate cancer. While there are hints of truth in that statement, as such it’s an outrageous oversimplification and almost criminal in its inaccuracy. The doctor then scoffed when I asked for more details about the contingent of people who do experience profound sexual health side effects. Those in the former camp of doctors have become cogs in a cold, corporate wheel, forced by an incredibly pressurized and competitive environment to sprint on the hamster wheel, and those in the latter have cast ethical stands into the proverbial wind in chase of the next payday (and there are hordes of these guys and gals). The crucial and compelling question for people like us then becomes: where can we go in search of actual, objective advice on our health and the health of our families? Do we have access to evidence-based thinking at all? And are there places we can go to be treated as individual, human patients with unique conditions and inputs, instead of as faceless cells and datapoints on a huge spreadsheet? That’s where Rob and people like him come in. Ever since I became determined to educate and empower myself as it relates to my journey with alopecia, Rob’s Youtube content and his website have been exactly like a lighthouse in a storm in terms of clarity and veracity, compared to what else is out there. The standard of scientific rigor, as well as the ethical standard, that Rob’s content and approach sets is world-class: the service he provides is peerless and unmatched considering the sick and vacuous context of American healthcare. He has dramatically improved the nature and outcomes of dozens of interactions I’ve had with healthcare practitioners, his influence helping me get to the truth faster and more efficiently than I would have without him. I am enormously grateful to have been the beneficiary of his tremendous expertise and what is so obviously his calling and his life’s work. As rational, shrewd participants in today’s broken healthcare environment, asking for no more than sound advice and treatment for ourselves and our loved ones, we need a sage counselor, a soldier to fight through the swamps of misinformation, marketing, and mistakes. Rob is that soldier fighting beside us. He has turned coverage of an issue that might seem cosmetic to some into a model of advocacy and support in the medical and healthcare space. A truly higher standard. Rob isn’t just giving people their hair back. He’s giving us our dignity back.
