As a web programmer there is a lot that Rapid can do to make their website more responsive. From my experience, nothing is cached locally on the customer's device so every page has to be redownloaded from scratch including the header and navigation bar which don't change. It is pretty annoying to have to wait a few seconds for the header to download then the rest of the page be instant. It is also obvious that Rapid are using a CMS (Content Management System) for their website as some items aren't (arguably) in the correct category and the 'from' label below products simply gets the cheapest item in that category - which makes sense, except Rapid put related items in the category too, a soldering irons tip in a soldering irons page so it shows up as 'from £2' for example. I also find the navigation bar to be annoying as it is so large when it opens a customer's cursor has to go around the bar, and when they do want to use it, it closes if the cursor goes out by a single pixel, this could be avoided with simple css transitions. The target audience isn't really clear from the website, I don't know if they target hobbyists or businesses, from the way it remembers past orders and has invoices I guess the latter. The company itself however is really responsive, getting back to my questions in only a few hours in some cases. Orders arrive fast, prices are good and the free delivery on orders over £30 is great. If Rapid are targeting hobbyists, optimizing the website and having more hobby friendly products like ICs would help a lot.
