Bought a rattan corner sofa from their eBay store and thank god I did. The eBay store has exactly the same address and telephone number despite different name and uses the same images as on the main site so I know this to be from the same company. The item was described as a dark grey frame with dark cushions and what I received was clearly a light grey frame with dark grey cushions (see photos as advertised as to what was received). On the listing the seller had made the point several times about images can look different in different lights, computer monitors etc which looking back should have been a warning sign. There was very little down to subjective interpretation here it was absolutely not as described and I was obviously unhappy. I therefore rang the seller and all they did was argue with me that this was the right one and their idea of verifying was to simply check a code on the box (as if something could not possibly have been packed wrong). They did not ask for any photos to check which would have been the most logical first step in my opinion. They said I was welcome to return it at my own expense which I was quoted around £50 for and was obviously not willing to do since I had either been sent the wrong item or it was not as described.
I didn’t let this go and looked on the website at different sets and found some of their light grey frames, which I then sent across along with images of mine looking remarkably similar. Their response was once again that I had been set the right dark grey set as their light grey frames are not textured like mine but smooth. This was a lie as could quite clearly see the same texture/pattern in the pictures. At this point I had had enough and asked eBay to step in who agreed the item was not as described and started putting the pressure on the seller to resolve the matter. I would like to say this changed the sellers attitude but no such thing. They agreed to arrange a courier to collect but on more than one occasion made a point of saying they were not liable for any damage in transit... as if I was! I made this point and said that as soon as I opened the package and found it not as described I didn’t bother unpackaging the rest so it would be returned in the condition it arrived and that any issues once handed to the courier was between them, not me. I also asked to confirm the courier they were using and if it was insured. They confirmed the former but not the latter.
Thereafter they became a little more helpful and pleasant to deal with but by this time the damage was already done. I felt generally unsupported, like I was in the wrong and all liability would fall on me. Even as though they were ignoring my consumer rights which I knew very well anyway. Customer care generally atrocious by certain members of staff anyway.
Having been collected on a Wednesday on a 24 hour service it was not until the next Monday I heard anything and this was from eBay resolving the case on my behalf and refunding me as the time limit had passed for the seller to do this. Like I said earlier thank god I ordered from eBay as this would have been a real job fighting this on my own if ordered from the seller direct.
No doubt this company is very good when all is well but who isn’t?! It’s when stuff goes wrong you really find out how good they are and based on my experience I would avoid at all costs.
