I just took the one day art course with Teacher Lou yesterday. I am a total beginner and have never done anything like this before. I do enjoy crafts but can't draw for toffee so thought I'd see whether resin was something I'd be able to get to grips with. I had a few hiccups paying for it online as the website kept glitching on the check out page so I emailed via social media. I got a very quick response and was given a phone number to call. I signed up over the phone very easily and the communication was great. I received my pack a couple of days before the course which contained everything I needed in terms of the resin - (Tip - read the notes carefully before the cousre though as you do need to get set up ahead of time and provide a couple of things yourself - like prepare your work area, find an apron and a heat tool (hair driers are not ideal but a long firelighter is fine or a craft heat tool is perfect - mine only has a 1m cable which I found annoyingly short so I would say choose one with a long cable or sort yourself out with an extension cable ahead of time!). The course was via zoom so make sure you have stable internet connection/hotspot to use and Teacher Lou explains everything so thoroughly. Make sure you have space to lay out 3 separate projects that can't be moved for 24 hours (away from pets/children who might knock them!) It was very 'easy' to do everything - by that I mean Lou talks you through everything and you don;t need any prior knowledge - she shows you the type of thing you're aiming to make and then you do it - I learned loads and far more than if I had tried to teach myself from YouTube videos; I asked endless questions and Lou was very patient and gave really thorough answers that I've largely remembered!! Tip - have a pack of baby wipes right beside you! I am normally a very neat worker (years of cheffing has taught me that) but resin is sticky and I got in an unholy sticky mess and used ALL the gloves in my pack!! Lou was laughing at me as every time she asked me smethign I was fighting with sticky gloves to tough the screen to unmute myself - it was funny, but just be warned you will get everything sticky! I've come away with 3 great projects that I have learned loads from and two of which I actually really love!! :-D the first one I didn't really think about my design as I just wanted to learn the techniques and what resin 'felt' like to work with - it's not beautiful but for a first ever attempt it's not awful either! We used all the resin in the kit so if you want to do more immediately after the course, while it's fresh in your mind (and because you loved it so much like I did), have spare in stock. There is a bit of liquid colour left over and loads of mica pigment, glitter etc left over for future projects and overall I'd say it was great value for money. I know it's expensive but your pack and postage of the kit is included and it was a full day of tailored teaching - compared to the amount of wastage I'd have ended up with if I was self taught I think in the long run, it will have saved me money because I now know what I want/need to buy. Oh yes and you get an exclusive discount voucher because of taking the course so that adds value to the course cost too - and I know I'll get good value from it as I am hooked! I'm really excited to use what I have learned, I'm about to fill my shopping basket! Thank you Lou for really such a great way to spend a blustery cold wet lockdown day!
