This summer I eagerly headed to explore the Greek islands with a small group of my good friends from London. We had all booked this sail months before and had been looking forward to it for some time. When traveling nothing always goes to plan and this trip was no exception. Having a group of friends on the trip meant that despite all the set backs our sprits were kept high for the majority of the trip.
However the strain of the trip got to us all in the end. In the beginning our boat didn’t show up because of damages sustained the previous week, we were delayed leaving Santorini the next morning which meant not making it into Ios until 4pm. This theme carried through the rest of the week with us not making it to a new port until the afternoon and struggling to find a safe way off the boat to land. This all culminated with three nights spent at paradise beach in Mykonos. When we arrived we were stuck on the boat with no foreseeable way to make it to land dry. One of the other guests wrapped his clothes and belongings in a plastic bag tied to his waist and swan to shore. In the end we had 10 minutes notice that one of the fleets sailing boats would pick us up if we wanted to go to shore, with no assurance when we would be able to get back on the boat. This continued for the next few days with our two options for getting on or off the boat been a small dingy with a temperamental motor or swimming, including our final day when we all needed to get off the boat with our luggage. In the end we organised our own water taxi to come to pick us up and transport us and our luggage safely.
Along with these boat specific debacles we also misled out on several key included features and optional activities of the trip. Continental breakfast, 3G wifi, boat parties such as the beer pong and toga party, traditional Greek night and quad bike safari. To add to the frustration and disappointment, our tour leader and the company were anything but apologetic, trying to assure us that there were worse places to be stranded.
In all the experience of Sail-in-Greece was very disappointing for myself and my friends as well as the other guests on the boat. It is not a company I would rebook or recommend to any fellow traveller
