*A Disappointing Experience in Darjeeling – Not Worth the Hype* I had high hopes for Darjeeling, often glorified as the "Queen of Hills," but my recent visit turned out to be a deeply disappointing experience. The city, sadly, is far from the picturesque charm it once promised. Garbage litters the streets everywhere. From marketplaces to so-called tourist spots, cleanliness appears to be the last priority. There is a complete lack of waste management, and the constant stench makes it nearly unbearable to walk around and explore. Hygiene is another major concern. Most eateries serve food in unhygienic conditions, and the quality is mediocre at best. Even popular restaurants and cafes lack basic cleanliness standards, leaving you constantly worried about falling sick. Hotel prices are absurdly high for what they offer. Despite charging premium rates, guests are forced to request—even beg—for basic amenities like clean towels, running hot water, or proper room service. There’s little hospitality, and most staff seem either overwhelmed or indifferent. Darjeeling has unfortunately become a poorly maintained, overpriced, and overrated destination. Unless there’s a serious effort to improve the city’s infrastructure, cleanliness, and hospitality, I strongly advise against visiting. Save your money and peace of mind—explore other hill stations that actually care about their visitors.
