The current offer of £1 or £3 for a 'free trial' sounds good but it's not transparent. I didn't realise that I was signing into a subscription service until I noticed the 'Set your back up box' instructions at the end of the confirmation email (see pic). When I did realise, I cancelled the subscription service online and emailed a complaint to Simply Cook. They replied saying that as I'd cancelled the subscription service then I wouldn't get the offer box and they'd refund the £3 I paid.
So how is this a 'free trial'? It's more a discount against future purchases.
I wouldn't describe their practice as a scam, but it is misleading and they really should be up front about what you are buying/signing up for from the outset. If people don't fully read or understand the confirmation email they'll end up paying a monthly subscription for something they hadn't realised they were committing to.
