Our guide Rhonda was excellent. Very knowledgeable, helpful and had a wonderful sense of humour. The accommodations were great. A few suggestions: - It would have helped to have something we wore (like a lanyard, or badge) that identified us as part of the Smartours group, especially at the beginning. - Smartours in NYC did not really prepare us for all the additional options - a number of people in our group kept worrying if they had enough cash with them, and they did add to the overall cost of our trip. Perhaps the trips most of us (if not all of us) opted to participate in should be included in the price, so there are no surprises. - We did start getting printouts of the next day’s activities, but not in the first few days - this would have helped and reduced everyone’s anxiety. - Finally, anyone traveling from Canada should be given the option of NOT going tthrough JFK. The Egypt flight from Toronto (direct) came in just after ours, whereas we had to leave Toronto to get to JFK 8 hours before we needed to register in for the Cairo trip. It was a nightmare coming through customs and security on the way home, after the 12 hour flight from Cairo to JFK. Took us hours standing in line ups and added an additional 10 exhausting hours to our return trip. I would only suggest Smatours to Canadians if the flight options were stated up front by the staff of Smartours when booking a trip. I think customers would appreciate this, and weigh out the pros and cons. For us clearly we did not know this would be possible, and did not explore alternative ways of traveling. This should be taken seriously - adding another airport and another country which we needed to get through customs could have been totally avoided and did put a serious damper on our overall experience.
