My first and will be only experience with Stein Mart was an online order. I had gotten a gift card which in itself was delayed after being ordered, due to issues on Stein Mart's end according to the person who ordered it for me. It took almost two weeks to show up in my inbox. After putting several items in my cart and creating an account I went to pay. The total was $100 to be paid with gift card and around $0.08 to be paid with Paypal. Only when I hit the button to confirm order the screen repeatedly went back to the start of the process. Once it even doubled all the items in my cart. I contacted customer service, who took a few days to get back to me and didn't offer me help or a coupon for my trouble but said they had tried to replicate the issues themselves and it was probably my own fault for using the wrong internet browser and to try again on a different one. I was using Chrome. I was frustrated but unwilling to give up $100 since I was trying to buy holiday gifts. Two days later I tried again and this time it went through but they now refused to honor my welcome coupon and I had to pay around $7 through Paypal (almost 10 times the cost if the order had went through the first time). I got an email that my order was being shipped. The day AFTER my shipping notification I got another email saying that an item I'd ordered had been cancelled from my order. I couldn't understand how they had first shipped it and then cancelled it, but at this point I had no confidence contacting support would get me anywhere. When my order showed up there were several items missing, not just one, and I never heard a word about any of them. A few weeks later I got two separate gift cards in the mail, both for six dollars and a few cents, with no apology or explanation or anything. No refund to Paypay for tax or shipping on the cancelled items. Original gift card at a zero balance. I thought I might be able to get one more gift with the $12 they sent back but they wouldn't honor the free shipping that went with my original order and I'm not going to pay any more money to fool around with this company. In the fifteen years I've been doing the majority of my shopping online and I can honestly say that this was the worst experience I've ever had.
