So happy I took ‘the plunge’! I’m about 5 months into my treatment and I’m really pleased with the process so far. It’s probably only been in the last month or so that I’ve started noticing results (mainly due to the fact that I had quite bad overcrowding) - but these aligners do really work. It’s easy to be skeptical at first because you’re essentially buying a mail order treatment, but the customer service is excellent and the team at Straight Teeth Direct are extremely responsive! In honesty, the first week or so for me wasn’t great at all. The very first time I put them in, I felt like I was wearing a gum shield (even though they’re extremely thin and I couldn’t notice them in the mirror). I also had a very pronounced lisp for almost 3 weeks and as a teacher who has to talk all day, I was more self conscious about this than I ever was about my teeth. Slowly, my lisp subsided and it’s only very slight now (my students don’t notice really - and they’re great barometers as they’re so honest). Also, I don’t enjoy changing my aligners very much. I do on one hand as they are obviously going to carry out another stage of movement but on the other hand, they can be quite uncomfortable for a day or two. But then, after around 3 days, they feel completely ‘fine’ and after a week to 10 days I hardly notice them. In terms of day to day, I’ve found the whole cleaning my teeth after eating process a bit inconvenient - especially with my job. On the upside though, I know my teeth are the healthiest and whitest they’ve ever been. Not snacking is also a bit of an issue for me as I like to graze as opposed to have big meals - which I’ve had to change due to ensuring I keep the aligners in for the the allotted 22 hours per day. With all the ‘draw backs’, I still feel as though Straight Teeth Direct deserve 5 stars. I feel as though the draw backs would occur with any company and I didn’t think it would be an ‘easy’ process; I’m sure traditional braces would be just as bad, if not worse. I just wanted to ensure that anyone who was considering treatment was aware of the potential issues they would face with invisible aligner treatment. Ultimately though, I’m sure the positives will far out way the negatives eventually. And what I’ll get out of the treatment is straight teeth for the rest of my life so a year or so of ‘inconvenience’ is a small price to pay.
