I am beyond thrilled, grateful & energized that I found these below knee socks for an amputated limb. At first I wasn't so sure if they would work, as it takes a little getting used to wearing something on your skin that isn't just a liner itself. I can not stand the feeling of pulling my liner off, I no longer have to wince as I remove my liner, it pulls off freely without sticking to the bottom of my residual limb. (Let's visualize ripping off a band-aid). I can most definitely state that at any point in the day while it is quite hot outside, the perspiration does not build up in the liner (which causes the residual limb to sting), and I can continue on with my day. I can continue to garden in the heat, and bike ride in the heat without the frustration of perspiration and the stinging pain sneak up on me. At the end of the day when I take the prosthetic off, the sock is full of moisture and the limb is perfectly sound. It is quite defeating physically and mentally to have to plan out an activity that results in excess moisture in your prosthetic. As in, not engaging in regular activities that one would do typically, as in simply walking to the store, or frustratingly having to avoid opportunities that would otherwise bring one joy & meaning to one's life. I took off on a bike ride the other day to a music festival, not once did I have to give a single thought to all the perspiration that had built up in my leg from the bike riding alone, and then sitting in the sun. Talk about game changing for me. Not once did I have to think about removing my prosthetic, or needing to find a place to sit (out of the public eye) to dump out the perspiration that had built up, not at all, I eventually got back on my bike and carried on. Just as a typical person would! NICE! I would also encourage (somehow) if there could be an education component for prosthetists (maybe there is) to recommend this sock to their client base, even though the understanding of "only having a liner" next to the skin is the only way to achieve a total socket fit. There is also a huge consideration that one does not need to apply antiperspirants/aluminum type products to their residual limb to protect them from perspiration problems. This middle aged woman who is 8 years into this prosthetic life with an elevated vacuum system, and while missing a limb has definitely impacted my life, I can profoundly state that this "sock" has completely improved my life!
