I am a restaurant owner and a "partner" on Talabat. There are 6 delivery partner apps in UAE. Talabat is by far the worst. I sympathise with the customers who order because they have no idea the equal pain that restaurants go through when things go wrong.
Right from the beginning, as a new business owner, the onboarding process was a nightmare. Our initial "business development manager" disappeared, there were severe technical issues with their automated document system to register and 7 weeks later, I am still struggling with the after effects. There is no explanation of the process, interface or system. I've learned it (the hard way) as I go. I figured out the menu management. I figured out the payment. I figured out their tablet device.
When it comes to orders, I can go on and on:
- when the restaurant runs out of a certain item we are supposed to mark it as hidden. And we do that. Yet on two occasions Talabats system let's the customers order it, leading to a negative experience by both customer and restaurant.
- we had two incidents where the rider spilled the drinks. Talabat openly asks us to re-do it without compensation. Meanwhile the customer is stuck in the middle. I'm sorry, but in todays time, can you imagine working for free? Because that's what Talabat essentially asks from us. They won't pay us for doing it twice and meanwhile, the customer leaves behind a negative review of the restaurant
- Their portal is a disaster. I just want to know the total amount ordered and then the net payable to the business. They don't have this. Their statements are complex, their invoices are unintelligible
- they have VIRTUAL account managers who are not empowered. They are glorified email forwarders. The person is based in Egypt and you can't call them. They text you on WhatsApp using a UAE number.
- introduction and onboarding? Want to know how it all works? They will send you links to videos which don't work. Figure it out yourself.
- Dealing with substitutions or exceptions? GOOD LUCK. When customers complain, Talabat sides with them, without willing to understand the full picture. Want to open a support case? Good luck. Their ticket system is inaccessible. Their emails go to email-groups which bounce back. That's the picture I have attached.
Talabat is the WORST partner for businesses. If I didn't have a contract with penalties I would have terminated on the 2nd day.
The only good thing they did was the photoshoot but then again, they won't send you the original JPGs. They actually THREATEN you if you postpone the appointment. I had a sick staff who had no option because Talabat says "the photoshoot is free. If you change at the last minute it will be cancelled"
Really, just an unprofessional business partner.
