Michael Rawlings
I have been a member for over 20 years and on the rare occasion that I have called on the AA the patrolmen have all been very helpful. However on my last call out 3 years ago it took over 2 hours to attend. Yesterday, 3 miles from home on the very busy A47 my MGB suffered a complete electrical failure at 2.35pm.I called the AA, explained the situation and was told I would be seen by 3.50pm. She then stated this may be extended by another 3 hours! I explained I was elderly with a heart condition and she promised I would be shown as urgent priority and seen within an hour. This did not happen and I rang again and eventually got through after being cut off. I was told I was marked as priority but could not be seen before 7.30pm. I said this was totally unacceptable and why had I not be rang about this delay. He said nothing could be done and I told him I was left with no option but to abandon an expensive car and walk over 3 miles home along a busy A road without pavements. I arranged for them to collect me at my home after 7.30 in order to hopefully retrieve the car. However a local patrolman did spot my problem and rang me just before 6pm. to say he was at the car. He then had to return to my home to collect me. We retrieved the car and trailered it home. I was later able to diagnose the fault as a failed relay which had been renewed 2 years ago. The AA used to be an excellant organisation but after endless ownership changes it has cut its staff to the bone to maximise its profits and to hell with its customers. I shall not be renewing
