Helpful staff. They were not sure that a photo met the requirements and noted that we did not have a flight booking to leave China (we were travelling by road to Kyrgyzstan). However, they said that they would go to the Consulate and check whether they could proceed. They did and the visas were returned to me earlier than I expected. They kept me informed by email throughout the process
