Kazakhstan: adoption in 2004 and a desire to visit that orphanage again in 2014 for our now-12-year-old son. Our one clue for contact was "The Baby House, Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan". Huw Owen took on the cause for us, found the orphanage, found a local tour guide and interpreter for us in Petropavlovsk. When we arrived we found that we were the first non-Kazakh family in 7 years to visit the orphanage! India- Calcutta to Delhi- with a guide who found dinner in a local home, kite flying in Jaipur, elephants, a tiger, marble mosaics, riding on horseback beside Ranthambur National Park. Our guide brought us to the big sites, and to the small villages to meet local farmers. Tanzania and the Serengeti- we visited twice because we liked our guide and his incredible knowledge of the wildlife so much. Onion and goat farms, bananas, fennec foxes, cheetah brothers, hunting with the Hadzaba, and 140+ species of birds. Our guide Raphielle was known as the man who went farther into the Serengeti than any other, and he routinely found special animals for us BY OURSELVES, not surrounded by 15 other vehicles as is common.
